Guardiola accepts Jesus, drops Iheanacho
Manchester City have dropped Kelechi Iheanacho from the club’s squad
for the UEFA Champions League knockout stages. The 20-year-old has not
featured for Pep Guardiola’s side since coming off the bench in the 4-0
defeat to Everton last month.
Though the club stated that he will still be eligible for selection, Kelechi, who scored 2 goals in the group stages, lost his place to new signing Gabriel Jesus.
The news of the shake-up was announced on the Club’s website:
The 21-man list includes two new additions from the Group Stage, with Gabriel Jesus and Yaya Toure both being made available for the remainder of the competition.
Ilkay Gundogan’s continued recovery from a knee ligament injury sees him removed from the list, along with Kelechi Iheanacho, though the striker remains eligible for selection.
The Nigerian now meets the requirements to be named on UEFA’s ‘List B’, which allows clubs to register an unlimited number of players, provided they fulfil the given criterias.
The UEFA squad includes: Goalkeepers Claudio Bravo, Willy Caballero. Defenders Bacary Sagna, Vincent Kompany, Pablo Zabaleta, Aleksandar Kolarov, Gael Clichy, John Stones, Nicolas Otamendi. Midfielders Fernando, Raheem Sterling, Yaya Toure, Jesus Navas, Kevin De Bruyne, Fabian Delph, Leroy Sane, David Silva, Fernandinho. Attackers Nolito, Sergio Aguero, Gabriel Jesus

Ex-Niger Delta militants back 2face Idibia’s planned protest
Some former militants, under the auspices of Urhobo Ex-Militant Leaders Forum, have declared their support for hip-hop singer, 2face Idibia, who is planning a nationwide protest on February 6, 2017 in Lagos.
In a statement released by the National chairman, Phase 2 ex-militants, Mr H. M. Ebirie, he said “we the Niger Delta ex-agitators are fully in support of the 2face Idibia-led nationwide mass protest against economic hardship and severe hunger in the country.
“The federal government seems to have no immediate measures to
cushion plights of the suffering masses and we are ready for the
protest.”
“The Federal Government must be awaken to rise up to its responsibilities of creating the conducive environment for economic growth and alleviation of severe hunger in the land through people-oriented policies and programmes,” they said.
Similarly, Youths for Human Rights Protection and Transparency Initiative (YARPTI), has said that it will take part in the demonstration.
In a statement by its Vice President, Dr Joy Tobin, the group said some of its members will march in Lagos, while others will march in Port Harcourt.
It said: “The right to join with fellow citizens in protest or peaceful assembly is critical to a functioning democracy.
“Within the space of a little more than a year, Nigeria’s story has turned full circle from an economy lauded as the largest on the continent with potentials to grow further to one enmeshed in its worst economic crisis in 25 years.
“Now, the economy has officially died and the government is cash-strapped with 27 states owing workers and pensioners backlog of wages.
“This is in addition to about two million workers and pensioners starving because their wages and benefits are not being paid on time while prices of goods in the market have gone to high heavens. All these are due to bad government policies.
“We can’t keep quiet anymore.”

10 most iconic cars of all time
The automotive history is one of
the fastest developing ones, which is why the looks and features of
different vehicles change so fast. New models come and go, but there are
a few of them that made an impact on the auto history. Find out which
10 cars can be called the most iconic ones.
Ford Model T
Before Ford
Model T, car travel was only available to the wealthiest people. This
car revolutionized the car industry by being the first personal car
available to the masses. It was produced for almost 30 years, and 15
million units were manufactured in overall.
BMW X5
The
BMW X5 was the first SUV ever designed by BMW, but the lack of
experience didn’t prevent the X5 from becoming one of the most famous
BMW models in the history. The BMW X5 is praised for its outstanding
on-road performance that can compete with any luxury car.
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution
For a while, drivers have been dreaming about bringing rally cars to everyday settings, and the Mitsubishi
Lancer Evolution is exactly what everyone had in mind. This model is
universally adored for its mind-blowing performance and newest tech
features.
Toyota Prius
The Prius was another revolutionary Toyota
model that was released in 1997. The reason for its iconic status is
that it’s the first hybrid car to be produced. The Toyota Prius was
designed for environment-conscious drivers who didn’t want to give up
their passion for cars.
Acura NSX
The
NSX is almost three decades old, and it remains the same
technologically advanced supercar that everyone fell in love with in
1990s. The frame, the body, and the engine were all tweaked to
perfection, which allowed to drive a true Acura supercar in the city settings.
Volkswagen Beetle
The
Beetle is one of the most recognizable cars in the history, and even
people outside the automotive community know what it looks like. For a
while, the Volkswagen Beetle was the best selling vehicle of all time, thanks to its capable performance and appeal to the buyers.
Land Rover Discovery
While some SUVs have nothing to offer to their owners besides the rugged appearance, the Land Rover Discovery
is a true SUV both outside and inside. It delivers respectable
performance in every situation, no matter if you’re driving up a
mountain or cruising down the beach.
Toyota Corolla
In 1968, when the Toyota Corolla
was unveiled, no one could predict how popular this car would turn out
to be. The reliability, fun driving characteristics, and great fuel
efficiency made Corolla the best selling vehicle of all time, a title
that it holds up to this day.
Mazda Miata
Roadsters were very popular in the 1960s and 1970s, but they were forgotten until the Mazda Miata
singlehandedly resurrected this type of vehicles. This tiny,
beautifully designed and easy to drive convertible, is so popular that
the Miata is currently in its fifth generation.

Freedom in the World Scores: Nigeria’s political rights rating has improved
In the 2017 Freedom in the World evaluation, Nigeria’s political rights rating improved to 3 as against last year's 4.
This
improvement has been attributed to increased transparency under the
President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration and military gains against
the dreaded Boko Haram sect that led to a significant reduction in the
group’s ability to alter the religious and ethnic composition of the
northeast.
Freedom
in the World is an annual survey and report by a U.S.-based
non-governmental organization Freedom House. It assesses the degree of
political rights and civil liberties in every nation and significant
related and disputed territories around the world.
This year’s Freedom in the World survey evaluates the state of freedom in 195 countries and 14 territories.
The assessment is based on a scale of 1 to
7 with one being most free and seven being least free. Each country and
territory is assigned between 0 and 4 points on a series of 25
indicators, for an aggregate score of up to 100. These scores are used
to determine two numerical ratings, for political rights and civil
liberties. A country or territory’s political rights and civil liberties
ratings then determine whether it has an overall status of Free, Partly
Free, or Not Free.
In
the ratings for 2016 below, Nigeria’s political rights rating was 4
while that of civil liberties is 5. This year, while political rights
improved, civil liberties remained the same.
Thanks to Buhari and Nigerian troops for this achievement.
Diamond Bank records 2 million subscribers on mobile app and Diamond Y’ello platforms
Diamond Bank has recorded two significant
milestones in its digital banking drive with the signing up of a record
two million subscribers each on its flagship mobile banking app –Diamond
Mobile app, and its Diamond Y’ello account.
In
a statement issued to the press by the Bank, Head, Retail Banking
Businesses, Robert Giles, attributed the record milestones to the Bank’s
digital innovation and quest to provide customers with convenient
banking services.
In his words, “In January 2016, we
recorded the one millionth Diamond Mobile app customer having launched
the app a few years earlier. We are delighted that we were able to
double that number in only one year. This is an affirmation of the trust
our valued customers have in our products and services, and we pledge
to continuously provide cutting edge services to them”.
Specifically
designed for the teeming un(der)banked segment, the Diamond Y’ello
account allows customers perform a wide range of banking transactions
from their MTN phones without data or Wi-Fi connection. The account has
helped the Bank achieve its customer-base growth target in three years, a
goal that previously took the Bank ten years to achieve. This further
underscores its focus on executing its digital transformation strategy
by going beyond banking to meet its customers’ varying needs.
The Diamond Mobile app on the other hand
allows Diamond Bank customers carry out a wide range of banking
transactions from their Diamond Bank accounts including bills payment,
flight ticket bookings, eSUSU (joint savings club), funds transfers,
amongst others.
Diamond Bank Plc is Nigeria's
fastest growing retail bank, leveraging innovation and technology to
enhance customer experiences and drive financial inclusion in what it
terms Beyond Banking. Since incorporation in December 1990, Diamond Bank
has challenged the market environment by introducing new products,
innovative technology and setting new benchmarks through international
standards. Today, Diamond Bank is best placed to respond to changing
lifestyles and is leading the digital transformation in response to
these societal shifts. Diamond Mobile app, for example, is Africa's
leading banking app and the first with the touch ID feature.
“Beyond
growing the numbers of subscribers, we are focused on enhancing the
customer experience on these platforms. So our valued customers should
expect more exciting features as we go all out to provide them with
convenient banking services”, concludes the statement.
Young lady mercilessly flogged at a police station in Equatorial Guinea
The video of a young lady being flogged mercilessly inside a police station by a uniformed official has gone viral.
The
controversial act is said to have happened in Equatorial Guinea.
Although the offence of the young lady is not known, many social media
users feel insulted about the video. While some think a woman should not
be treated that way no matter the offence she might have committed,
some were also of the opinion that she should be given other
punishments instead of this corporal punishment as it looks demeaning.
