Here Is What Happened When Police Raided Patience Jonathan’s House

Patience Jonathan Discloses What Actually Happened, Says Police Found Nothing In Raid On Her Property
The immediate past First Lady of Nigeria, Patience Jonathan, has said there was nothing incriminating found in her house when members of Nigeria police force searched her family home.
Speaking through her lawyer Charles Ogboli, Patience Jonathan claimed that only cheque books, including one from Diamond Bank were found in the premises.
She also explained that it was the police that conducted the search not the EFCC as widely reported.

Patience Jonathan: Police Found Nothing; Don’t Know What They Are Looking For

According to the former First Lady, the police disclosed that it was the attitude of the security man that forced them to conduct a search in the premises.
She nevertheless, decried the embarrassing situation where a building will be searched in the absence of the occupant.
Her words:
“EFCC came last year and conducted a search in the absence of the occupant of the house.
“The NDLEA also searched the same building. This also happened last year between November or thereabouts. It is an embarrassment.
“I don’t know what they are actually looking for. Why are they searching a premises in the absence of the occupant?
“It appears there is something they want to do there.”

Dame Patience Jonathan continued:
“Today, it is not EFCC, but in the past, from November 2016, EFCC raided the place.
“It is a family house meant for the brothers and sisters; the siblings. It is a family house of the former First Lady in Maitama, Abuja.
“EFCC raided the place last year. Thereafter, NDLEA raided the place and throughout their raid, they found nothing incriminating.
“Today, I got information that there were several policemen numbering about 20 to 28 of them”.
“So, when I got there, I demanded to see the leader of the team and I was directed to an Assistant Commissioner of Police, who was in mufti and known as Williams.
“I asked him which of the command are you from and he said they were from IG’s Special Unit.
“Somebody also in mufti intervened and said they are from the AGF, Attorney General’s office.
“He told me that they came to search the house of a judge.
“But because of the attitude of the security man, they decided to now move into the house (Patience Jonathan’s family building) and search the house.
“They forced the door open and searched everything. At the end, they asked the security man to sign that nothing incriminating was found.
“They took away three cheque books and a company iron seal.
“The company seal does not belong to the former first lady because she is not staying there. The company is not known to the first lady.”
Meanwhile, reports that the EFCC had raided the home of former President Goodluck Jonathan and whisked him away has now been proved to be untrue.

Orlando City honour victims of nightclub shooting with special seats

The MLS franchise unveiled 49 stadium seats to make a rainbow, with each seat honouring a murdered victim of the Pulse nightclub shootings

Orlando City have created a touching tribute to the 49 victims who lost their lives in a nightclub shooting in Orlando last year.

The new Orlando City Stadium, where the MLS club now calls home, has created a section of seats that are the colours of the rainbow, with one seat for each victim killed in the mass shooting at Pulse - a gay-friendly nightclub.

The 49 permanent rainbow-coloured seats - which differ from the purple or white seats around the stadium - will be located in section 12, as the tragedy unfolded on June 12.

Kaka's Orlando City will open their new stadium against New York City in the MLS on March 5.

Who is Arsenal's first signing of the January transfer window? Meet Cohen Bramall

The Gunners are on the cusp of adding a 20-year-old from the seventh tier of English football, but where will he fit into Arsene Wenger's plans?

Cohen Bramall is on the verge of signing for Arsenal from Evo-Stik Northern Premier League side Hednesford Town.

The 20-year-old recently spent two days on trial with the Gunners where he left enough of an impression to earn himself a permanent deal, taking part in a training session with the first team.

Bramall, a versatile left-sided player, is expected to go straight into Arsenal's under-23 side where he'll battle for a place on the left alongside Marc Bola and Tolaji Bola.
                                                        WHO IS COHEN BRAMALL?

The skilful wing-back is able to play at left-back or in midfield and will be a welcome addition to an Arsenal side who have a tradition of bringing through attacking full-backs.

Possessed with bagfuls of pace, Bramall focused on his budding athletics career as a teenager and only recently prioritised football over running.

Spells at Kidsgrove Athletic, Alsager Town, Nantwich Town and Market Drayton eventually earned Bramall a move to Newcastle Town where he reportedly went under the radar in terms of performances, prompting a former Town reporter to tweet "A few years ago I was at Newcastle Town reporting on Cohen Bramall and just 2 years later he's off to Arsenal, didn't see that coming".

A few years ago I was at Newcastle Town reporting on Cohen Bramall and just 2 years later he's off to Arsenal, didn't see that one coming!
 — Alex Lowe (@alexlowe95) January 3, 2017

Bramall joined Hednesford this summer and hasn't looked back since. He made inroads with a handful of eye-catching performances, one of which included a rabona assist which went viral and subsequently triggered the interest of several top-flight clubs, eventually landing him a trial with Arsenal.

Although the signing has made headlines due to Bramall being signed from the seventh tier of English football, it remains unlikely that he'll be seen in the first team anytime soon due to the presence of Nacho Monreal and Kieran Gibbs at left-back.

It's expected that Arsenal will pay a fee in the region of £40,000 for Bramall who will put pen-to-paper on a two-year deal.

MMM to unfreeze accounts on January 14

The anxiety amongst participants of the famous money-doubling scheme, Mavrodi Mundial Movement, (MMM) has continued as the scheme has set a new date for when it will unfreeze all confirmed Mavros of members.
Anxiety as MMM sets new date to unfreeze accounts (See details)
MMM Nigeria has disclosed that participants accounts will be unfrozen on January 14, 2017.
Recall that the scheme had on Tuesday, December 13, 2016, froze all confirmed Mavros, otherwise known as money due for withdrawal for one month.
That action meant that all the accounts of members who are due to be paid after having ‘provided help’ (PH) to another person since the last month have been frozen and hence, have no access to request for payment, known as ‘Get Help’ (GH) until after one month.
Some participate had thought that the due date for their account to be unfrozen was on 13 of January 2017, but the scheme on its official Twitter handle, @MMMNigeriaHelp has disclosed that participants accounts will be unfrozen on January 14, 2017.
Meanwhile, some Nigerians have accused the federal government of investing in the popular Ponzi scheme, MMM, following reports of scarcity of small naira denominations in the country.
The accusations surfaced after sources in the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) disclosed to the media that the apex bank failed to print small naira denominations for about a year due to the current economic recession.

Cuper: Ronaldo not good enough to win FIFA Player of the Year

The Portugal star is widely tipped to add the revived award to the Ballon d'Or lifted in December, but Egypt's coach is convinced his compatriot is more deserving
EXCLUSIVE

Hector Cuper has revealed he voted for Lionel Messi as the FIFA Player of the Year, as he feels Cristiano Ronaldo's performances do not merit the award.

The Barcelona star finished 2016 as the year's top scorer with 51 goals, as he helped the Catalans to their second successive Liga and Copa del Rey double.

Ronaldo, meanwhile, got his hands on the Champions League title for Real Madrid and led Portugal to their first-ever international title with Euro 2016 success.

The striker, however, was not a decisive presence in either final, and Cuper believes Messi's superior displays mean he deserves the award.

"Messi is my compatriot and I had to choose him, but I don't think this affected my decision," the current Egypt coach signalled to Goal.

"He's the best player I saw in the last year. We're speaking about the whole performance. He gave everything to lead Barcelona to the domestic double.

"That also applies for Argentina where he did everything possible to win the Copa America, but he wasn't lucky."

The former Inter and Valencia coach added that, while Ronaldo's titles may lead him to the award, he was outplayed by his great rivals.

"Ronaldo won titles also, but I don't think his performances were good enough to be the player of the year," he said.

"Performance won't be in his favour, it's just the titles that would help him to be in the nominations. You can say I chose Messi for several reasons, not just because he's Argentine."

Cuper will lead Egypt into the 2017 African Cup of Nations in January, having steered the country back into the prestigious tournament after missing three consecutive editions.

Guardiola: I am nearing the end of my coaching career

Despite being widely regarded as one of the greatest coaches in football, the ex-Barcelona and Bayern Munich man believes he could walk away from the bench soon

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola feels he is already nearing the end of his coaching career.

Guardiola, 45, has a three-year contract at the Etihad Stadium but does not envision continuing in the same capacity far beyond that.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest coaches of all time, the Spaniard has won 22 trophies since starting out at Barcelona B in 2007.

The Spaniard led Barca's first team to a historic treble in 2008-09 and won three successive Bundesliga titles in as many years at Bayern Munich.

But, despite being in the early stages of his time at City, Guardiola says he is already winding down his career.

"I will be at Manchester for the next three seasons, maybe more, but I am arriving at the end of my coaching career, of this I am sure," he told NBC Sports, prior to City's 2-1 Premier League win over Burnley on Monday.

"I will not be on the bench until I am 60 or 65 years old. I feel that the process of my goodbye has already started."

Naira To Fall Further As Dollar Inflow Drops

The naira is set to witness another round of decline against the dollar in the days ahead as an increase in dollar flows from Nigerians living abroad coming home for holidays fell short of expectations, traders said.

Foreign exchange reserves last Friday also fell 11.7 per cent to $25.72 billion by December 28, from $29.13 billion a year earlier, data mined from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) shows.

The local currency opened Monday morning at 490 to the dollar from 495 against the dollar it traded last week of 2016 on the parallel market.

naira_nigeria.jpg

In the official interbank window, the naira was quoted at 305 to the dollar on Thursday, the last trading day for the year.

“We see the naira depreciating against the dollar by the time more businesses resume operations next week after the festive season as dollar liquidity remains thin in the market,” one currency dealer said.

How The Naira Fared Against The Dollar On New Year’s Eve

The Naira closed the year 2016 at N490 to the Dollar, from the N495 against the greenback last Friday at the parallel market.
This is after currency experts and financial analysts had predicted that the local currency may succumb to the 500/dollar as the New Year approaches – due to the intense pressure on the naira
However, the naira was sold on the streets of Lagos and Abuja at 490/dollar on Saturday, the same rate it closed on Friday, December 30, 2016.
The local currency was expected to witness another round of decline against the dollar in the days preceding the New Year as an increase in dollar flow from Nigerians living abroad coming home for holidays fell short of expectations.
On Thursday, the naira closed at 490 to the dollar, the same level it closed on Wednesday.
The naira had fallen against the greenback from 485 to 490 on Wednesday, reversing part of the gain it recorded the previous week.
The local currency fell to 495/dollar the previous week.
The naira has, however, consistently closed around 305.5 a dollar level since August via the official window.

Melbourne warned of beach poo hazard after storms

Swimmers are being warned to avoid some of Melbourne's most popular beaches, after torrential storms washed faeces into the water.
The Environment Protection Authority (EPA) in Victoria is forecasting poor water quality at 21 of the 36 beaches it checks in Port Phillip Bay.
Contaminated water can cause gastroenteritis - a stomach bug - especially in children and the elderly.
A "poor" quality forecast equates to an illness risk of between 5% and 10%.
Australia's public broadcaster ABC said the risky beaches run from Werribee South in Melbourne's south-west to Frankston, about 40 kilometres south of the city's Central Business District.
Dr Anthony Boxshall, the EPA's manager of applied sciences, told ABC News 24: "We have indicators we look for (in water tests), which is an indicator of faecal contamination, which is a really nice way of saying poo."
"It's bird poo, it's horse poo, it's cow poo and it's people poo.
"It is everything that washes in from the streets, and everything that comes out through the storm water system."
Dr Boxshall said the water should be back to normal within around 24 to 48 hours, unless there is more rain - which forecasts suggest is possible.
EPA Victoria publishes alerts on its website to help beachgoers around Port Phillip Bay avoid hazards like sewage spills and jellyfish.
It plans to conduct more tests this week and post the results online.

His most popular song was Ni se compra ni se vende (Neither bought nor sold).

The singer, whose full name was Guillermo Enrique Morales Portillo, came from a musical family and won his first talent show at the age of eight singing a tango.
At 16, he moved from his home town of Maracaibo to Caracas and started performing regularly.
In 1964, he joined Billo's Caracas Boys, one of the most popular dance orchestras at the time in Venezuela, with which he stayed for 12 years.
It was during this time that he became famous for his renditions of pasodobles such as Que viva Espana (Long live Spain) and Se necesitan dos (It takes two).

On New Year's Eve he performed two concerts.

Nnamdi Azikiwe Intl Airport set for closure

The Minister of State, Aviation, Sen. Hadi Sirika, will on Thursday engage the Industry’s Stakeholders on issues arising from the proposed closure of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, for repairs on its runway. Sirika disclosed this in a statement issued by Mr James Odaudu, Deputy Director, Press and Public Affairs, Ministry of Transportation on Monday in Abuja. He said the meeting was a follow-up to the decision of the Federal Government to temporarily shut down operations at the airport for six weeks in February and March. According to the minister, the Stakeholders’ Forum will afford him with the opportunity to officially inform the sector’s players of the decision. “It is also to brief them on efforts being made to ensure that the use of the Kaduna International Airport as an alternative during the six-Week closure of the Abuja Airport is seamless and hitch-free. “The Stakeholders will also be expected to make their contributions and key into the plans to make their operations during the period less problematic,” he said. Sirika, however, emphasised that the Forum was in line with government’s belief in ventilating people’s opinions in formulating and executing policies. He said that government was aware of the likely high level of discomfort and inconvenience the proposed closure of the airport would cause air transport passengers, airline operators and other service providers. He explained that the decision was informed by safety and security concerns, saying that government would rather lose billions of dollars in revenue than to risk lives. The minister also disclosed that the ministry would invite other Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) as well as security agencies and the Kaduna State Government who were expected to play roles during the six-week period. The minister had in December revealed government plans to shut down the airport while briefing newsmen on its efforts to.

Pranksters turn Hollywood to Hollyweed

The famed Hollywood sign high in the hills over Los Angeles got a little higher on Sunday, when someone altered two of its letters to make it read “Hollyweed.” The AFP reported that LA Police said unidentified thrill-seekers had climbed up and arranged tarps over the two letter “O’s” to make them look like “E’s,” CBS affiliate KCAL reported.

A prankster at work: Hollywood sign altered to read Hollyweed Each letter is 45 feet (13.7 meters) high, so the feat would have required not just bravado but considerable athleticism. The daring act may have been taken in celebration of a measure approved in November, when California voters passed an amendment legalizing recreational use of marijuana. A police spokesman said surveillance cameras might help them identify the culprit or culprits; the act was being treated as a case of misdemeanor trespassing. It was not the first such incident since the sign was first erected in 1923 — at the time as “Hollywoodland” — to advertise a local real estate development. Perhaps not coincidentally, the same lettering change to the sign was made exactly 41 years ago, when a California law relaxing penalties for marijuana use took effect. That alteration turned out to be the work of a college art student, one Danny Finegood. Along with friends, he later returned to the sign on Easter Day 1976 to make it read “Holywood,” and they changed it again in 1990 to read “Oil War” in protest of the Persian Gulf conflict. Finegood’s original handiwork, which he considered an act of environmental sculpture, was done for an art class project, the Los Angeles Times reported. Using $50 in sheets and ropes, he and three friends made the change — and Finegood received an “A” from his art teacher. But while he might have inspired the latest act of hillside mischief, Finegood cannot be blamed for it. He died in 2007, aged 52. Largely because of his work, however, Los Angeles officials increased security around the sign, installing a fence, alarms and eventually a closed-circuit surveillance system. It is not clear how someone made it through those barriers Sunday, but Danny Finegood might well have admired their work.

Domestic violence: 10 warning signs to spot a wife beater

Everyday, stories of husbands beating up their wives mercilessly abound. They posit it's done to put some real senses into their stubborn heads. These shameless men also believed there can never be two equal masters in the same house.
Sadly, these women had to endure these abusive relationships, putting up with different forms of domestic and physical abuses. Perhaps, these women are in it because of their children, maybe because they love the man or because they're certain that someday, he'll change. Yet, nothing improves; nothing changes.
There is this notions and misconceptions; this backward and forward debates between the male versus the female superiority complex: the gender debate to put it more succinctly. There's also this archaic belief that the male is supposed to be the head of the home while the female is supposed to be the neck.
How to spot a wife beater
Some shameless men had begun to abuse this notions and misconceptions. They see it as an opportunity to maltreat these poor and vulnerable women. Unfortunately, a lot of them have ended up in untimely graves.
Some in psychiatric homes and others, slaves. They're scared that if they try to leave the marriage or provide some damning reports to the Police authorities, the abusive husband will hunt and deal with them.
Furthermore, we've heard stories of women losing their lives on a daily basis. The stories of two men come to mind- the story of Kolade Arowolo, a 30-year-old man who was alleged to have murdered his banker-wife. He claimed he did it in self-defense. Another alleged case was that of a dock worker, Olalekan Shonde, a 51-year-old, who brutally killed his wife in the Egbeda area of Lagos, Nigeria. He denied killing her. These're just few cases of wife battery perpetuated by men in our societies.
Perhaps, something serious needs to be done or maybe a lot of these men need help somehow: psychological or otherwise. Some of them are suffering in silence and they've no one to confide in. They should be bold enough to come out and seek help instead of bottling it up until it spew out of control; until they do the unthinkable.
There're various women non-governmental organizations (NGOs) catering for helpless women. These NGOs are doing their best even without individual or government supports. But these domestic/physical abuses still rages on.
Strategically, women who suffer domestic and physical abuses should come together, form a bond; somewhat like support groups where they share ideas on how they can support and protect themselves against such acts. When they're in such places, abused women can find comfort and hope when others - who've had such predicaments in the past - share their problems.
These experienced women should also talk about how they were able to come out of it successfully. Again, they benefit a lot when someone from an NGO, affiliated to domestic-and -physical-abused issues comes forward to give advice as well. Or they can organize a conference where they invite these NGOs to give a talk on such salient topic.
Now, how do you spot a wife beater?
1. They've anger issues
When a man is always prone to outburst without any justifiable cause, know that he'll raise his hand(s) someday to hit you. Men are less emotional beings than women so the only way they can express themselves is through shouting or throwing tantrums. Probably, these men have issues that have piled up for months or years. These issues could have forced its way to the forefront when the nervous system couldn't tolerate it any longer. It's like a balloon bursting to shred when it has gotten to its limit. What should be done? The men should be subjected to counseling either from their Pastor Imams, or an experienced psychiatrist.
2. They've inferiority complex
Any man who raises his hand to hit his wife is a coward. He has an inferiority complex. No matter what a woman does to you, you shouldn't make her your punching bag. When a man can't take advise from his wife, then something is amiss somewhere. Some men always want to dominate.
3. When they avoid you like a plague
When a man is always avoiding you, know that all isn't well. If you're the talking type who like to bother him, please stop it. He might be going through some emotional issues. Instead, inquire from him why he's in such foul mood. Pamper him like a baby, massage him gently and dig deeper into the many reason(s) he's isolating himself. Men are compassionate too. But if you go the wrong way, you might provoke him to hit you. Most of the issues bothering him might be from the office environment, from traffic gridlocks, or from crazy drivers.
4. He might be considering a divorce
The first sign you notice from him, apart from isolating you is that a divorce matter could be beclouding his sense of reasoning. Sometimes, he doesn't eat the food you cook. He comes home late at night and he's always on the phone 24/7 chatting with his girlfriends. Because he doesn't know how to pass his issues across, the best he could do is to either punch, slap or worse, manhandle you.
5. You're not good in bed
Ladies, you see, we men love to explore. If you don't give him what he wants, he'll avoid you and look for somebody else who can satisfy him real good. Some young girls who're adventurous will give him what he wants. These little devils are super-pro. Then he starts keeping late nights. He starts spending the money meant for home on these girls. Your children's school fees will remain pending. Meanwhile, he's spending all the money meant for house keep on his concubines
6. He's always intoxicated
When he starts getting drunk, something he doesn't do before, please know that there's an issue bothering him. He gets home, his shirt is rumpled and stinking like a sewage tank. Eyes as crimson as zobo drink. He has foul mouth odor. Then you question him where he's coming from. He gets provoked; slaps and abuses you. Perhaps, something deep inside has been bothering him which you fail to notice.
7. He's psychologically imbalance
Domestic violence: 10 warning signs to spot a wife beater
Stress might be one of the reason he's hitting you. The stress would've degenerated into something beyond his control. He needs help ASAP. Let him see a doctor (psychiatrist) who'll evaluate him thoroughly and recommends the right therapy. Although his ego wouldn't allow him to admit his psychological challenges, you need to persuade him. If he refuses, get the assistance of an elderly person, probably his parents, uncle or aunt. Anybody he respects a lot.
8. They don't admit their faults
Abusive men don't always admit their faults. They feel they're always right. Therefore, they'll beat up you when you try to correct their mistakes. Men who're egoistic are very hard to bend and plead. They don't respect women. They don't value their wives warnings and advice. They see women as trash who should be disposed as at when due. Men who beat women to a pulp are in that category. They're good men outside but terrible husbands at home. Such men can do and undo.
9. They've friends just like them
Birds of the same feather flock together. This expression might sound cliche, but that's the perfect words I can use to describe men like that. They congregate at a particular spot and discuss anything under the skirts. These men are womanizers. They've different sets, shades and sizes of girlfriends.
10. They're ungodly
Men who beat their wives are ungodly. They don't go to church on Sundays. They don't pray with their families and they don't want to have anything that has to do with the preaching of the gospel. Anytime a man of God comes to share the words of God, they've one form of excuses or the other to give. These men don't have the fear of God in them. It only takes the grace of God to pull such men from the dark pit to His presence. They don't respect women especially their wives. What women with such husbands should do is continue to put them in prayers. Commit them to His hands. Pray and fast. With God all thing are possible.
